What can I do in the Library?
We have lots of books in the Library and most of them can be borrowed. We have a large collection of picture books and novels, chosen to meet the reading needs and interest of all our students. We have an extensive non-fiction collection and a reference section, that students can use. New books are constantly being added to the collections. Students can also read magazines, write, draw, do jigsaws, play games, listen to stories or use the computers. There are quiet areas where students can come in and study or finish homework, or just curl up and read.
Our Expectations
Our Library is a public place used by the whole school community. Very often, we have parent helpers working with us and people from outside the school community visiting us. We wish to be proud of our students, therefore it is our expectation that by your behaviour and your treatment of the facilities and resources, you show respect and consideration for others. You can do this by leaving food and drink outside, playing loud games outside only, leaving the area you have been using tidy, and being prompt with returns or renewal of loans. Finally, our Library is a quiet place. Not silent - but fairly quiet and we would like you to help us keep it that way.
Dealing with Sadly Overdue Books
What you borrow, you must return and for those few occasions when you simply can't ... it's lost, the dog ate it, you left it at your cousin's place, here are a few steps to help clear up your library record and retrieve your good name.
- Let the library staff know as soon as possible.
- Be honest.
In the past many parents/carers have voluntarily offered to replace lost or damaged books and we appreciate this help. Our current policy is that an invoice for a minimum of $20 will be issued for badly damaged, destroyed or lost books to cover the cost of a replacement copy, covering etc. Depending on the book or circumstances, this fee may be waived. We believe this is the fairest way for all users of the library.
Overdue Books FAQs
Q. What if I'm positive I returned the book already? A. Come and talk to the Library staff and we can double-check the shelves. Together we can work out what went wrong.
Q. What if my friend has it now?
A. It is still borrowed in your name. Bring the book and your friend to the Library. We will return the book and your friend can borrow it.
Q. What if the book was stolen? A. Very often a "stolen" book is sitting in the bottom of a tidy tray or under a bed. Have a good look for it and then talk to the library staff.
Q. What if I don't remember taking the book out in the first place? A. Come and talk to the Library staff about it. We may be able to jog your memory. If we've made a mistake, it's important to straighten things out. Come as soon as your name appears on the Library Overdue List. Failure to do this brings attention to yourself in an unwanted way - be warned!
